Experience a
semester abroad in Yerevan, Armenia. This one semester program is designed to
introduce students to Armenian language, history, art, and contemporary events.
The semester schedule is composed of five courses:
• Armenian language (4 units)
• Armenian art and architecture (3units)
• Armenia today (3 units)
• Armenian studies (history) (3 units)
• Independent study (2 units)
Courses, based on curriculum used by the Armenian Studies Program at California
State University, Fresno, will be taught by faculty from Yerevan State
University.
Eligibility
The program is open to all college juniors and seniors and graduate students
who have maintained a minimum 2.75 GPA.
Application Process and Deadline:
The participant should begin by requesting a written application directly
from CSUF, which must be submitted by April 10, 2006. Please note that a
minimum of five students must be accepted in the program for the Fall 2006
Semester Abroad Program to take place.

Travel
fellowship:
Travel fellowships are available to qualified applicants who are accepted into
the CSUF Semester Abroad Program through BirthRight Armenia/Depi Hayk (BR/DH).
(See below for Eligibility). The travel fellowship covers reimbursement of
roundtrip economy class airfare at the average price for that period upon
successful completion of the program and BR/DH requirements.

The eligibility criteria for BR/DH applicants: To be eligible for a Birthright
Armenia travel fellowship, the participant must be of Armenian heritage (at
least one grandparent), between 18 and 32 years of age, must have graduated
high school and have not previously received a BR/DH travel fellowship. Former
resident-citizens of Armenia are only eligible if they can prove by official
documentation that they left Armenia before the age of 12. In addition to
successful completion of coursework, in order to receive travel fellowship
reimbursement, students must participate in havak-meetings and fulfill BR/DH
community service requirement.
In summary, the basic requirements for a Birthright Armenia travel fellowship
are as follows:
a. Study Abroad Certificate, which confirms that the participant has competed
credits of 13 units in total from YSU on Armenian Studies.
b. Community Service Certificate, which confirms that the participant has
completed a minimum 10 hours per week of volunteer work during the semester
program (credits of 2 units).
c. Continuing Involvement Proposal. Each participant must submit a short 1-2
page proposal before departure from Armenia for how s/he promises to stay
involved in Armenia related projects.
d. Basic Armenian Language Proficiency Certificate. Each participant must
demonstrate or acquire basic Armenian speaking, reading, writing and listening
skills in the course of their BR/DH sponsored program. This requirement will be
satisfied by successfully completing the 4-credit Armenian language course
during the Semester Abroad program.
