I
am proud to inform you that, by vote of the executive board, our chapter
of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has entered Dr. Dickran Kouymjian
in the competition for the award of National Scholar. His teaching
and internationally recognized scholarly work exemplifies the principles
for which the National Scholar Award was created. We feel his credentials
are of the highest quality and make his entry extremely competitive.
The National Scholar award was founded to honor one of the nationís top
scholars each triennium (once every 3 years.)
The winner will deliver a keynote address at the triennial convention,
held this year at Pennsylvania State University and receive an honorarium.
The selection of the National Scholar is achieved by a committee composed
of Phi Kappa Phi members selected from each of the nationís five regions.
The committee screens applications submitted by the chapterís of the Society,
are limited to one application per chapter. The individuals nominated,
by definition, represent the top echelon of scholars across the country.
Dr. Kouymjian certainly fits in this category.
We wish him well and hope his nomination will bring added recognition to
the university as a whole, to the many excellent faculty at Fresno State
and, again, underscore the quality of education available from many of
our academic programs.
Yours truly,
Neil Kuykendall
