This year the Armenian Studies Organization got off to another great
start. After holding annual elections, the first regular meeting
of the year was held at the new Dominion Pizza. Planned ASO events
were discussed, including a Halloween party, a canned food drive,
the 5th Annual Film Festival (last years Film Festival was
a huge success), and co-sponsoring a series of lectures given by
the Kazan Visiting Professor, Dr. Ara Sanjian.
The first major event of the year was the annual Halloween party,
held Saturday, October 25th at the Nyrie Club on First and Dakota.
The party was outstanding and everyone was dancing nonstop. The
DJ did an awesome job and everyone had a good time.
On Sunday, November 2nd, the Armenian Studies Program held a lecture
by Peter Balakian, about his new and enticing book titled The Burning
Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and Americas Response. This
is a wonderful and fascinating look at the Armenian Genocide, and
explains about the one million plus Armenians murdered during 1915.
Included in the book are accounts of Americans who launched the
first American international rights movement. Balakian is also the
author of Black Dog of Fate.
On Wednesday, November 12th, the ASO held its second meeting and
many new members attended. All students are welcome to join ASO.
