Friends of Yerevan State University Branch to be Formed in Fresno

STAFF REPORT

A branch of the Friends of Yerevan State University, Inc. has been established in Fresno following the visit of Yerevan State University President Dr. Radik Martirosyan to Fresno in February.


The purpose of the Friends of Yerevan State University is to develop and advance the educational curriculum at Yerevan State University, to promote the educational and scientific training of individuals at Yerevan State University for the purpose of improving and developing their capabilities, and to foster educational and scientific discussions and forums for alumni of YSU who reside in Armenia and the United States.


Among the projects that have already been completed are renovation of classrooms and allocation of scholarships. Funding for a new building on the YSU campus has been secured and construction should start this year.


Mr. Edmond Azadian, Secretary of the Friends of YSU accompanied Dr. Martirosyan to Fresno to discuss the formation of the Fresno chapter. The Central Board of Directors of the organization includes Vartkes Balian, Benon Sevan, Rouben Terzian, Osep Sarafian, Judge Armand Arabian of California, Armand Norehad, and Dr. Simon Simonian.


Barlow Der Mugrdechian of the Armenian Studies Program announced the formation of the Fresno Branch and those in the Central Valley who are interested in participating in the activities of the Friends are invited to contact him by calling 278-2669 or by email at barlowd@csufresno.edu. An inaugural meeting of the Friends of Yerevan State University will be held in the near future.
