Young Writers’ Conference

Each spring, the Department of English and the College of Arts and Humanities at Fresno State host the Young Writers’ Conference for area high school students. This conference provides a valuable opportunity for young writers to hear a professional writer read and answer questions about the creative writing process. Saroyan Bicycle Ride

The Centennial bike ride will take you along the Eaton trail from Riverview Ranch to Woodward Park. During the ride, readings from the works of William Saroyan will be led by John Kallenberg, Chairman of the William Saroyan Society. Registration for the bike ride is through the Parties for the Parkway at (559) 248-8480.

Barlow Der Mugrdechian of the Armenian Studies Program will lead a discussion on the book Essential Saroyan, a compendium of excerpts from Saroyan’s fiction and nonfiction works, along with selected short stories and plays.

Djanikian’s new book of poems, So I Will Till the Ground (Carnegie Mellon), has just been published. It deals, in large part, with the Armenian Genocide and his immigrant experience here in this country after he left Alexandria, Egypt, as a young boy. Djanikian teaches in the creative writing program at the University of Pennsylvania.
